The library of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology was founded in 1960 and moved to the current site in 2010, covering 30，712.03 square meters.

The library possesses one of the most complete collections of atmospheric science literature among the domestic university libraries, as well as the rich literature collection and a wide professional coverage.At present, there are about 2.32 million printed materials, and 1051 kinds of printed Chinese and foreign periodicals are subscribed annually. The core journals of atmospheric science, environmental science and engineering, information science and technology, computer science and other disciplines all have the systematic and complete collection here. It also covers data of atmospheric science and hydrometeorology about all regions of China since 1951, as well as historical weather charts of high altitude and ground since 1956.Over the past decade, we have introduced or founded more than 40 kinds of large-scale network databases in Chinese and foreign languages, and collected 1.89 million e-books and 1.19 million e-journals.A comprehensive collection system with the characteristics of atmospheric science, multi-discipline, multi-language, multi- carrier and reasonable structure has already been formed, which is suitable for the setting of disciplines and specialties of the university, and better meet the needs of students and teachers. For the past 60 years, the library has played an important role in teaching, scientific research and personnel training of the university.

There are 10 large-scale reading rooms with a floor space of 1,224 square meters, 11 medium-sized reading rooms (322 square meter), 2 compact stacks rooms (about 300 square meters) equipped with 4998 books and magazine racks, and 4,200 reading seats. An electronic reading room with 50 computers, combining inquiries, reading, downloading and internet access for digital resources, as well as student internships, examinations, training and other functions has established to maximize the use of equipment and share resources across the university. The library also has a projection room with 150 seats, and one systematic modern intelligent academic lecture hall equipped with the analog conference system, audio sound reinforcement system, video system, centralized control system, simultaneous interpretation system, conference recording system, live broadcast system and multi-screen monitoring system. Readers can sense a strong modern and cultural atmosphere here.

The library owns more than 32,000 registered readers, we practice the service concept of "readers first, ensuring the needs of school teaching and research as the main line, serving and educating people as the fundamental", and implement the "open-shelf management, integration of collection, borrowing, and reading, and unified borrowing and returning" management service model. It focuses on the construction of digital resources and networked information service, gives full play to the advantages of information resources, and actively carries out printed document lending, reading, electronic document inquiry, reading, downloading, information retrieval, reference consultation, user education, document delivery, topic determining, scientific and technological novelty search, document copying and other services.

We have built a reader-centered information service LAN, adopting the Huiwen Document Information Service System, and implement the entire process of network management for resource construction, reader service, and business work. The wired and wireless network have dually covered the whole library, and the wireless network information can cover 50 meters around the main building. Through the homepage of the library, teachers and students on campus can conveniently and quickly retrieve the collection of literature resources, read, download online electronic resources, and search information, which improves the depth and breadth of knowledge and information acquisition. The library is open from 8:00 a.m.to 10:00 p.m. every day, seven days a week (totally 98 hours) during the semesters. In winter and summer vacations, it’s from Monday to Friday, but we provide 24-hour service for the electronic resources all the year round. The educational and information functions have been brought into full play. The library is a joint construction and sharing unit of the literature resources of universities in Jiangsu Province, and we have established inter-library loan relationships with most universities in Jiangsu Province.

The library implements the curator’s overall responsibility system under the leadership of the principal. There are 6 departments in the library: the administration office, the resource development department, the reader service department, the information service department, the subject service department, and the scientific novelty retrieval department. There are currently 61 staff members in the library, serving about 2 million readers annually.

Under the guidance of the university's 12th five-year Development plan, the library, adhering to the trinity of “Resources, Management, and Service” and comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development ideas, now is accelerating the modernization of library management, the digitization of resources, and the network of services. It is to further promote the construction of a multi-disciple, multi-language, multi-carrier, and reasonably structured literature resource guarantee system and information service system, featuring atmospheric science, thus improve service and competitive awareness. It also can provide high-quality literature resources and much convenienceforthe users. Now the library has become the school’s document information center, knowledge sharing center, and cultural education base; and it will be set up as a characteristic library of knowledge and research.
